Students, families, faculty, and staff of Multiple Intelligence International School (MIIS) traded classrooms for cinema seats as the community gathered at Opus Premier Cinema for the MIIS Community Premiere of DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island.
It was a night of shared laughs, excited reactions, and the simple fun of watching a movie together. Students sat alongside families and teachers, bringing the many cultures and backgrounds of the MIIS community together under one big screen.
And this particular movie gave everyone a little more to celebrate.
Inspired by Filipino culture, folklore, and family, Forgotten Island brought familiar influences from the Philippines into a story made for audiences around the world.
Seeing those details come alive on the big screen added something special to the evening. In a community made up of different cultures and nationalities, it became a chance to enjoy a Filipino-inspired story together—and to see how local stories can find their place on a much bigger stage.
MIIS celebrated the feature of two members of our community who were a part of Forgotten Island: Sophia Laforteza (MIIS Class of 2021) and Dolly de Leon (MIIS Parent).
MIIS alumna Sophia Laforteza, leader of the global girl group KATSEYE, is featured on the official Forgotten Island soundtrack with her rendition of “Never Tear Us Apart.”
From being an MIIS student to a global stage, Sophia’s involvement made the movie feel a little closer to home. She joins Filipino and Filipino-American artists featured in the film’s music, including Lea Salonga, H.E.R., BINI, and SB19.
We are also proud of our MIIS parent, Dolly de Leon, who voiced Lola Fatima, the cool and loving grandmother of the main character, Jo. Dolly de Leon is a world-renowned actress who has consistently represented our country with pride through her numerous accolades, including a nomination for a Golden Globe Award and a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award.
For students watching from their cinema seats, it was a wonderful reminder of where creativity, talent, and opportunity can lead.
