MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Discover and Develop Your Child’s Intelligences

You were among the first educators
outside of the US to find "MI' helpful for your students and to devote a school to the development of relevant ideas and practices

And I think you were the first educational leader to tie together "MI' with the pursuit of 'good work' and good citizenship'... including the recognition of individuals who succeeded in linking these realms. And I can now see that you have kept the faith and even extended it in new directions and explorations

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES

Howard Gardner of Harvard identified EIGHT distinct intelligences

Howard Gardner of Harvard has identified seven distinct intelligences. This theory has emerged from recent cognitive research and “documents the extent to which students possess different kinds of minds and therefore learn, remember, perform, and understand in different ways,” according to Gardner (1991).
According to this theory, “we are all able to know the world through language, logical-mathematical analysis, spatial representation, musical thinking, the use of the body to solve problems or to make things, an understanding of other individuals, and an understanding of ourselves.
Where individuals differ is in the strength of these intelligences – the so-called profile of intelligences – and in the ways in which such intelligences are invoked and combined to carry out different tasks, solve diverse problems, and progress in various domains.”
Nature Smart

People with nature smarts learn best when they are able to explore their natural environment. They learn well through outdoor activities, learning and classifying things, and watching science and nature videos.

Math Smart

Think conceptually, abstractly and are able to see and explore patterns and relationships. They like to experiment, solve puzzles, ask cosmic questions.

People Smart

These students learn through interaction. They have many friends, empathy for others, street smarts. They can be taught through group activities, seminars, dialogues.

Music Smart

Music-smart kids how sensitivity to rhythm and sound. They love music, but they are also sensitive to sounds in their environments. They may study better with music in the background.

Picture Smart

Picture-smart learners think in terms of physical space, as do architects and sailors. Very aware of their environments. They like to draw, do jigsaw puzzles, read maps, daydream. They can be taught through drawings, verbal and physical imagery.

Self Smart

These learners tend to shy away from others. They’re in tune with their inner feelings; they have wisdom, intuition and motivation, as well as a strong will, confidence and opinions. They can be taught through independent study and introspection.

Book Smart

These learners have highly developed auditory skills and often think in words. They like reading, playing word games, making up poetry or stories. They can be taught by encouraging them to say and see words, read books together.

Body Smart

Body smart kids have a keen sense of body awareness. They like movement, making things, touching. They communicate through body language and learn through activities, hands-on learning, acting out, role playing.

Now that we have come back to India, we are going to miss MI. But we are glad that the school has added value to our kids’ educational background and our Philippines too! While studying in MI, our kids never failed to surprise us! They know everything that was mentioned in their weekly schedules, and they learned to work independently and in groups as well!

As educators, we are so impressed with the MI community. The administrators have always gone above and beyond in responding to our needs and concerns. The kuyas and ates have been so attentive to the well-being and safety of our girls. And, of course, the teachers have shown incredible dedication to the educational experience and personal needs and interests of our daughters.

My attitude and perspective changed because my high school life has been a life changing experience. MI makes me want to go to school. it is a place where I found people I could rely on for the rest of my life. Thank you MI for helping me discover the leader in me. I am grateful that you have given me the opportunity to find myself, be confident, and influence others in a positive way.
