The halls of Multiple Intelligence International School (MIIS) had a little extra maepda (매워, spicy!) as students and teachers came together to celebrate Chuseok, one of Korea’s most meaningful holidays.
Often called Korean Thanksgiving, Chuseok is a time for families to come together, celebrate the harvest, share food, and express gratitude. For our Korean students, it was a chance to see a tradition close to home celebrated by their school community. For everyone else, it was an invitation to learn, participate, and discover something new.

Throughout the celebration, students explored the meaning behind Chuseok and why it holds such an important place in Korean culture.
But at MIIS, we value sharing and learning about different cultures to raise informed global citizens.
Students and teachers joined in activities that brought plenty of smiles—and perhaps a few watery eyes. Teachers took on the Spicy Buldak Noodle Challenge, while our Upper School students bravely faced the heat themselves.
The fun continued with Jegichagi, a traditional Korean outdoor game where players kick a small shuttlecock-like object called a jegi into the air and try to keep it from touching the ground.
Our Grade 5 students performed Arirang, a centuries-old Korean folk song and cultural symbol that expresses themes of love, longing, and resilience.
Students also joined in a round of K-Pop stop dance, adding even more energy—and a few memorable moves to the celebration.

Beyond the fun, the day became an opportunity to share a part of Korean culture with the wider MIIS community. It was especially meaningful for our Korean students, whose traditions became something their classmates and teachers could learn about and celebrate alongside them.
That exchange is an important part of life at Multiple Intelligence International School. As a progressive international school in Pasig City, MIIS brings together students from different cultures and backgrounds, creating opportunities to learn not only about the world, but also from one another.
At MIIS School of the Future, cultural understanding begins with moments like these: asking questions, sharing traditions, trying something unfamiliar—and sometimes finding out exactly how much spice you can handle.
Have a happy Chuseok! May the season bring our Korean families, and the entire MIIS community, plenty of warmth, gratitude, and reasons to smile.
